The Best Kiev Survival Guide
Water Always drink bottled water in Kiev. The tap water contains nasty parasites and you’ll get a bad stomach. The locals drink the water if boiled in tea and coffee and you, as a visitor to the city can too. But don’t drink water straight from the tap! Metro The Metro is perhaps the best way to get around in Kiev if you’re a tourist. It has 3 lines and 52 stations and is very clean and efficient(compared to London and New York!) During rush hour the average wait between trains is just 2 minutes. Buying tokens for the Metro is easy. When you enter the Metro station you’ll see people queueing at windows; this is where the tokens are sold.
One token for one ride on the Metro costs UAH 4.00. Some Metro Stations in central Kiev also have machines which sell travel cards. One card usually is enough for 50 journeys. These are best to buy if you’re going to be using the Meto a lot during your stay. Please be careful when using the Metro as pickpockets are in operation at all stations and in the Metro cars.
